It’s almost Marching Season! We have a very exciting upcoming year. PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE E-MAIL. There is very important information regarding the marching season dates, band fees and physicals requirements, etc. It’s very likely that there are mistakes in “who is receiving” this e-mail. If you should not be receiving this, please let me know. I will make the necessary changes.
A few VERY important items--
Band Fees
The first payment (full or partial) is due the first full day of Summer Band Camp (August 1st). These fees cover SO MUCH of the costs over the school year, meals for every football game, marching uniform dry-cleaning, rental of school-owned instruments, transportation to and from various events, contest entry fees, among so many other things! Again, the first payment (full or partial) is due August 1st. You can either pay in cash, money order, or write a check to Westside Music Boosters. Students will not be allowed to football games/performances without the first payment made. Physicals
Finally, Houston ISD requires any student involved in outdoor/athletic activities to have a physical done. EVERY marching band has to do this EVERY year. You have two options: you can get one done by your own physician, or you can come by the Westside HS Football field house and get one done on site when they offer those services in August—more info on the latter will be available closer to August. It’s very important that you print the Houston ISD Physical packet. Physicals have to be completed by August 18th. Calendar
Two dates for Freshman/New Marchers Camp are July 28 and 29, from 7:30am—2:15pm. After that, full band rehearsals are Mon-Fri from August 1st through August 19th. The end times will vary depending on the week, but you can find all that information, and more, on our web page: www.wolfband.org – just click the calendar tab and you’ll find our entire summer band rehearsal schedule, plus all our games and many other band related events. All of our rehearsals are required. Please plan to attend all rehearsals on time. It’s important to wear sun screen, tennis shoes, and hat to rehearsals.
Social Media Presence/Remind Service
We try very hard to send as much information as possible, in as many ways as possible, due to the large number of students in our programs. For that reason, we ask students and parents to like our Facebook page @ www.facebook.com/WestsideHSBand , as well as subscribe to the Remind text message service by texting the message “@48kag” (without quotation marks) to 81010 You’ll receive a confirmation text from the 2016-2017 Marching Band account, as well as a link to download the Remind app to your smart device. It’s a very handy app to have to receive updates and information in real time directly to your mobile device, as well as email notifications, should you choose to enable that setting.
Class Schedule
Many times deans put students in the wrong class – or sometimes doesn’t even put the student in a band class! ALL of these problems can be easily solved if you communicate with Mr. Brunson in August. Again, all of these problems can be easily solved. Don’t panic!
