Music Boosters
Posted 1/25/10
Dear Westside Music Parents:
I apologize for this last minute notice about our January meeting. I hope you already know about it from the weekly Westside email or the Westside website. All our meetings are publicized there, thanks to Diana Baron, who handles communications for Westside.
Our January meeting will be held Monday January 25 at 6:30 in the Westside Band Hall. Topics to be addressed include:
*The Spring Music Banquet, tentatively scheduled for Friday, May 21.
*Trips planned for spring 2010 as well as a big trip planned for spring 2011 – to Disneyworld in Florida!
*Fundraising opportunities being planned and how students can make those exciting trip opportunities a reality!
Band parents, please note that following the General Meeting a brief break-out session will be held to discuss plans for the upcoming Jazz/Percussion concert on Tuesday, March 9. An exciting new format for that concert is being planned, and parent help will be needed with various aspects of preparations and for the event itself. I know Mr. Allen and Mr. Hughes will appreciate your support.
Lastly, I want to remind you that now is the time we begin the process for our booster board’s transition to the next school year. A five-member nominating committee is being formed and will be tasked with recruiting a slate of officer candidates for next year’s board. The slate will be presented at the March 29 meeting. Nominations from the floor will be accepted and a vote of the membership will be taken at the April 26 meeting. In May we will have orientation for new board members, who will take office June 1.
This is my third year serving on the Board of Westside Music Boosters. I can tell you honestly that it has been a great experience to work with our talented directors and with our dedicated volunteers – that means you!! The primary role of the Board is to provide structure and continuity, not to do every task that needs doing! My sincere hope is that the board will remain strong for many years to come and will continue to effectively support Westside's music programs. Parents of younger students, I particularly encourage your active involvement in Music Boosters. If you would consider taking on a leadership role next year, please speak with your student’s director or contact me directly (see number below.) We would love to hear from you!
Sincerely,
Barbara Thompson
