Two of our band students had the AMAZING opportunity to travel to 7 European countires over the summer as members of the Music Ambassadors "Star of Texas" band. Contest Season 2011

Congrats to the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Winds for their multiple performances this contest season! Both ensembles competed in the UIL Contest on April 7th and 15th,  and received an excellent rating on stage and a superior rating in sightreading. Symphonic Winds received a "sweepstakes" award in sight-reading for three "one" ratings. In addition, the Concert Band performed for ratings FOR THE FIRST TIME at the Waltrip Contest and also received an excellent rating! Congrats to everyone!

UIL Solo/Ensemble Contest

On March 5th, over 100 students participated in the annual Region 23 UIL Solo and Ensemble contest. The students' ratings have never been better! Congrats to everyone who participated, especially to those who performed for the first time! Kudos to those who qualified for the State Contest: Soloists Terrence Joubert, Cheng Li, Kayvon Moin, and Michael Raney & also to the Sax Quartet, and percussion ensembles Gainsboro and Katraterra.

Domination in The Houston All-City Band

Once again, Westside Band Kids rocked the HISD All-City Band auditions. On Monday November 16th, more than 60 students auditioned for a spot in this honor band. 36 students were selected and will be representing our band program this year! Don't miss the concert to be held at Chavez High School on Saturday January 29th. CONGRATS TO ALL!!

Congrats to Our Region Band Members!

In December, several students auditioned for membership in the Region 23 UIL Region Band. This has been a VERY successful year with having MORE students audition and MORE students achieve higher rankings. On January 14th and 15th, the following students will repersent Westside in the Region Band: Kayvon Moin, Guian Carlo Salomon, Justin Jung, Cheng Li, and Sarah Morrell. CONGRATS!

An AWESOME week!

CONGRATS to all the students, parents, and directors for an AMAZING week1 On Sunday 10/17 we kicked-off the week with a photo spread and article in the Houston Chronicle. On Tuesday, Westside received a "straight ones" rating at the Region 23 Marching Band Contest and advanced to the 5A Area contest for the first time! Tune in to Good Morning America on ABC at 7:00 am on Friday to catch us on TV! WAY TO GO WESTSIDE BAND!

Westside Band Welcomes Mr. Sullens

Final exam and audition results have been posted. Click on the links to the left to find out which ensemble you are in (Concert Band members are listed at the end of Symohonic Winds). The directors will make sure all student schedules are correct for the fall. If you did not have a chance to audition for an ensemble, contact a director via email to schedule a meeting.

Accolades!!

We recently finished contest season with a bang! Congrats to the Concert band for their outstanding performance at the HISD Contest. Kudos are also in order for the Wind Ensemble's performance at UIL. The ensemble received it's FIRST EVER division 1 rating in Sight-Reading. Our Symphonic Winds made Westside history this year receiving STRAIGHT ONES for their stage performance at UIL. Congrats everyone! YOU ROCK!
